Flights: Flights are not included in our program costs.

Visas and Work Permits: The Togolese Republic, a member of the African Union and Economic Community of West African States allows visitors to obtain a visa on arrival in Togo unless they if come from one of the visa exempt countries. (Citizens of several African countries do not require a visa to enter Togo, except where there is a reciprocal visa requirement for Togolese nationals). Alternatively they may obtain a visa from one of the Togolese diplomatic missions before arrival (we strongly advise so). Citizens of most other countries are urged to obtain a visa prior to entry to Togo to avoid any possible inconvenience at point of entry in Togo. Volunteers need a Tourist Visa to enter Togo. All visitors must hold a passport valid for at least six months with at least one empty page.

Insurance: You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the program. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave your home to the day you return.

When you choose to volunteer in Togo with us, you will be living in Kpalimé in Togo. Kpalimé is a city in the Plateaux Region of Togo, 120 km north of Lomé and 15 km from the Ghanaian border. It is the administrative capital of Kloto Prefecture. Kpalimé has a population of 75,084, making it the fourth-biggest town in Togo, after Lomé, Sokodé and Kara. In town is a 1913 German-built church with a tall steeple. A craft center in nearby Kloto features traditional crafts such as woodcarving and batik. To the east, Mount Agou has trails and views across to Ghana. Northwest, on the Ghanaian border, Missahohé Forest is known for its butterflies.

Volunteers in Togo are housed at either, our in-country Coordinator’s home, host family or volunteers’ house, depending on the project site. The accommodations of course are clean and comfortable and will quickly become your second home. Life at the accommodations facilities is simple, unsophisticated and fun, perfect for unwinding from a busy day!

You will be provided with three good quality meals every day. The food will consist of delicious local dishes, using fresh produce to create a cultural and tasty experience! Typically your diet will consist of rice, bread, cassava, Ablo, Gbomo Dessi, sweet-potatoes, beans, noodles, banana with vegetables such as cabbage, avocado, spinach and eggplant. Water and tea/coffee are included throughout your stay whilst soft drinks (coke, sprite etc) and other beverages can be purchased from the local supermarkets in town. The weekly menu which will be proposed to you can be changed adaptively. If you have any food intolerance or eating habits, feel free to inform us at the beginning of your stay.
